Our engineers are specifically trained and licensed for electrical engineering for buildings as part of an architectural engineering license. NCEES, the parent testing and licensing board for professional engineers in the US didn't create this discipline until the 1990s at which time accredited educational degree programs had to be implemented and didn't offer it as a license until 2003. What this means is most of the "established" electrical engineers designing plans today are "electrical engineers" trained in computer circuits and printed circuit boards with no formal education on the electrical wiring and installation techniques for buildings as well as the applicable codes that need to be followed. No wonder why there are so many opportunities to improve designs in the market!
